Major Types of Computer Software
Software is the collection of instructions, programs, procedures and documentation that are used for different tasks of computer programs. The term “Computer Software” was first time introduced in 1958 by John Tuckey. These software are designed using code based language that work behind the computer interface and allow the program to do specific task as directed by the users.
Computer programs are classified into two major types and further there are subcategories of these programs.
- Application Software
- System Software
Application programs are used to solve particular problems through computers by the users. These programs are also called as application packages. All the ready programs are available in the computer market on CDs and DVDs. Application software include word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, web designing and graphical software and communication and multimedia software. Anti virus software are also included in application software.
System software is the program that controls the processing of computer system. It also makes the functions of attached devices with computer system as mouse, keyboard, speakerphones and printers etc. This software application is most essential for the working of computer system as without it there will be no connection between user and computer system. System software includes operating system, utility programs, device drivers and language processors.
In short computer software is most important and necessary part of computer working without there is no way to complete the task and even run a command on the computer system.
